Everyday Her Story: Taking a moment to reflect on my thoughts
I used to feel a lot of pressure during my studies. My parents didn’t push me to excel academically, but it always felt like I had something to prove to someone. I had this inner drive to do well in everything I tackled. It wasn’t until I started therapy that I realized this pressure might have stemmed from my insecurity about my height. My therapist helped me see that I was trying to compensate in other areas of my life. It was a revelation for me.
Now, as I’m considering pursuing a master’s degree in psychology, the old feelings of pressure are creeping back. I find myself worrying about all the ways I might not succeed. Despite my dad’s advice to focus on the effort rather than the outcome, I still feel overwhelmed. It’s like I’m back in my twenties, paralyzed by the fear of failure.
But this time, I’ve decided to confront my fears head-on. I’m reminded of something I read about emotional agility — acknowledging your emotions and pushing forward anyway. So, even though the pressure is mounting, I’m choosing to acknowledge my fear and push forward. I believe that by doing so, I can overcome these obstacles and become stronger than my fears.
And recently my desire to pursue my dream has become stronger when I saw this movie Titled “Good Will Hunting,” and it’s really something. The main guy is crazy smart at math, but his past has been pretty rough, so he doesn’t see how talented he is. He’s also built up this big wall around himself, pushing everyone away before they can leave him first. It’s like he’s scared of being abandoned. But then, this therapist, who’s also a professor, goes out of his way to show him that his past isn’t his fault. And that’s when things start to change for him.
You know, sometimes we underestimate the power of hearing someone say it’s okay if we’re not always number one. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive for success or a better life, but when our loved ones stumble, it’s crucial to show them unwavering support. We need to reassure them that our love won’t waver, no matter what life throws their way.
Words like these, especially from people we admire, can work wonders. Life isn’t just about winning or losing; it’s about experimenting, making mistakes, and discovering what truly matters to us. And success isn’t a solo journey — it’s shaped by our family, friends, and environment. It’s not a fixed destination; rather, it’s an ongoing journey, unique to each of us.
Instead of fixating on reaching a specific goal, we should embrace the journey and cherish every moment. Because our minds are wired to constantly seek more, we will be always wanting one or the other thing in life. And if we fail to enjoy the journey then we will be always living in anxiety. Even those who seem to have it all, like Mr. Ambani, still have dreams to chase. Retirement might not even be on his radar yet!
Until next time..!! Do not forget to share your everyday small struggles with someone who tells you it is okay and you are amazing the way you are !!
